Sound of Music Pavilion

A modest glass gazebo tucked into Hellbrunn's park, this is the world famous pavilion from The Sound of Music. Freely viewable in the open air, it is pure cinematic magic for fans from every continent.

About this place

This small eight sided glass pavilion is one of the most beloved film landmarks in all of Salzburg, immortalised by the tender duet 'Sixteen Going on Seventeen' and the later song 'Something Good'. During the 1964 filming it actually stood in the private grounds of Schloss Leopoldskron, while the famous bench jumping dance inside was shot on a much larger copy built on a Hollywood sound stage. Relentless fans kept trespassing at Leopoldskron to see it, so in 1991 the city of Salzburg rebuilt the pavilion here in the free, public park of Hellbrunn, where anyone can visit it without a ticket. Today the doors are kept locked after a visitor injured herself recreating the dance, but you can still peer through the glass and photograph this romantic, sunlit spot to your heart's content.
